NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS IS A THING OF THE PAST

2016 is coming to an end and the rise of 2017 is on the horizon. Year after year passes, day after day passes. What are you striving for? What is your purpose? This is the answer we are all searching desperately to find.

People get lost in the monotonous modern day life in the 21st century. Get a 6 figure job, buy the latest iPhone, stay up with the fashion trends, post epic photos and videos onto social media to increase your “likes” and “followers”. Is this really what your purpose is in life? Or what you even like to do?

Its time to soak in the uncomfortable, get outside your comfort zone, and do the things that you have always said you wanted to do. We always make an inordinate amount of excuses and never actually do what we have set out to do. You have all heard them all – “I don’t have enough money, I can’t get time off work, its too hard with the family and kids”.

2017 is the year of living in the uncomfortable and to live a life of experiences. I believe our modern day society is too comfortable, we just love to sit in the coziness of life. The times we are uncomfortable and rise up the occasion is where we obtain the most growth and wisdom. It’s also where we obtain the most fulfillment and sense of achievement. We are shaped by our experiences, lets make the best of them and stop worrying about what the future has planned for us – LIVV in the NOW.

Create Life Goals & Not New Year Resolutions

Grab a notebook and make this your “life book”. In our modern age, we have lost the art of writing and it’s time to get it back. Putting a pen to a piece of paper is therapeutic and solidifies our thoughts and ideas. Writing down your Life Goals will help you stay focused and actually execute your plans for the upcoming year. Life Goals is just the building block to create a routine in your life – it takes approximately 66 days to build a neuro-chemical pathway in your brain to maintain a routine.

Big grand goals are great to write down to try to accomplish them 1 by 1. But uber successful individuals take it a step further and break down each goal into actionable steps to actually achieve their goals. Its the art of focusing on 1 or 2 important prioritized tasks throughout your day to move you one step closer to your goals and vision. It is important to break down the big goals into smaller short term goals to give you a bit of structure and strategy.

Now, lets take it one step further and lets obtain your goals within the next 3 months. Learning from the great, Tim Ferris & his book “The 4 Hour Work Week” – it is time to optimize your time and really focus on what is most important to you. Tim is all about optimizing your time spent on “work” so it can free up your time to actually do what you love – the things that bring you absolute joy and bliss. Mine is traveling and adventurous trips.

Why does our New Years Resolutions never get checked off? Its because life ebbs and flows – we start out strong in the month of January, but ultimately start losing steam fast by February. We feel burnt out – I can’t do it. Or I’m too busy, work is too stressful, I feel so overwhelmed. Yes, we have heard it all and said them all ourselves.

The key to success is taking action and perseverance. It is not going to be easy – it might actually take you a few years to obtain your goals but that’s okay because it isn’t about the end result – it’s about the journey. The journey will be full of learning experiences and growth – growth that will shape you into your best self – the person you are chasing, and that’s yourself.
