Ozone Therapy – Why We Need More Oxygen

Ozone Therapy – Why We Need More Oxygen

Ozone was discovered more than 150 years ago.But we’re still discovering and researching its therapeutic and medicinal effects today.

Nikola Tesla formed the Tesla Ozone Company in 1900. However the application was unrelated to health as it was designed for purifying air. Decades later, science has advanced enough to the point where we understand the scientific makeup of ozone and can treat parents with ozone therapy. .

What is Ozone Therapy?

Ozone (O3) is gaseous compound made up of three oxygen atoms. It’s colorless and provides the smell you encounter after it rains. It forms naturally in the Earth’s upper atmosphere and protects us from UV radiation. It’s also man-made and used as a biohacking tool.

The idea of ozone therapy is to inject oxygen (O3) into the body to produce a pro-oxidative effect to potentially eradicate pathogenic bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, or other organisms. These organisms are broken down and the post treatment suggestions would include improving detoxification pathways such as infrared saunas and skin brushing. When we’re sick or dealing with symptoms of chronic disease it may be difficult to find the root cause of the issue. Ozone therapy may be a treatment option for complex medical cases such as lyme disease, chronic mold toxicity, autoimmune disease, and potentially cancer.

The treatment can be done via ointment, insufflation, injections, ozonated water, autohemotherapy (blood draw and re-insertion), and ozone bath or sauna. The IV method is safer and easier to perform. Ozone IV therapy takes between 30-90 minutes (10-pass Ozone ~60-90 minutes). Effects are noticed quickly as the ozone acts instantly as it enters the body.

The FDA has called ozone a toxic gas with no useful medical application. However it’s important to note that FDA-approved prescription drugs are one of the leading causes of death in the country. Patients suffered from 80 million side effects a year which is no surprise if you’ve seen a prescription drug commercial. Further, a 2017 study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association found about a third of FDA approved drugs between 2001 and 2020 were involved in some kind of safety issue after hitting the market.

What Are The Benefits?

Ozone therapy can provide a wide range of benefits. These include improvements within the body’s anatomy and natural healing process.

A few of these include:

  • Strengthen mitochondria – Ozone therapy can make the energy producing cells of the body more efficient with the introduction of lipoperoxides.
  • Brain health – It’s possible that ozone therapy can help patients recover from a stroke as it improves blood flow to the brain which has a large concentration of mitochondria.
  • Help with inflammation – The proper amount (low dose) of ozone can stress cells just enough to make them stronger. Two powerful antioxidants, glutathione and superoxide dismutase, are produced during this process.
  • Wound healing – Ozone was used during the first world war to treat combat wounds. Anti-inflammatory and hemodynamic (blood flow) properties were identified by war-time medical professionals. Today, ozone therapy is sometimes used for chronic and treatment-resistant wounds.
  • Antibacterial and Antimicrobial – One of the first uses of ozone was to sterilize drinking water, these same attributes allow it to treat bacterial infections.
  • Healthy teeth and gums – Certain dentists have included some form of ozone treatment as part of their services. Anti-Inflammatory and antibacterial properties contribute to gum and teeth strength.

What Can Ozone Therapy Help Treat?

These benefits naturally allow ozone to be used for treating many ailments and diseases.

Diabetes – Diabetes complications are often caused by oxidative stress, so the infusion of oxygen can help. People with diabetes tend to slow healing wounds so the faster healing is another benefit.

Breathing disorders – Clinical trials are underway to test the effect of ozone on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and other breathing disorders. It’s a natural connection. However, it’s important to make sure ozone is never directly inhaled as it can be toxic.

Chronic Disease – many clinical case studies have been conducted in the potential treatment of lyme disease, chronic mold toxicity, autoimmune diseases (such as hashimoto’s thyroiditis), and other pathogenic organisms.

Immune disorders – There is much debate about if ozone is effective for immune disorders, primarily the HIV virus. There have been contradictory studies over time. It’s worth exploring if other treatment options have failed.

SARS – Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is in the same family as pneumonia but more severe and potentially fatal. It was discovered during an outbreak in China in 2003. Research is underway to determine if ozone can be used as a supplementary treatment option due to its disinfectant ability.

Additionally, ozone has been used to treat circulatory disorders, geriatric disorders, macular degeneration, viral diseases, rheumatism and arthritis, Lyme disease and even cancer. This is done on a case-by-case basis.

Ozone IV Therapy vs. Hyperbaric Oxygen Machine

Another form of oxygen therapy is conducted with a hyperbaric oxygen machine. This is where the air pressure is increased to be three times the normal level. It’s mainly used for decompression sickness which is induced by scuba diving. These two procedures have similar names but very different tangibly and scientifically.

Ozone IV therapy is ultimately more affordable and is used to treat more ailments. One study compared the two forms of oxygen therapy and determined ozone IV therapy had greater therapeutic effects.

Ozone therapy & Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is a tick-transferred disease. It’s common during the warm season and present in all 50 states along with several countries around the world. The symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue and skin rashes. More severe effects develop when the disease is left untreated. Prolonged periods without treatment can lead to joint pain, nervous system issues and heart problems.

Lyme disease treatment is a contentious issue in the medical community. Most of the time, Lyme disease can be treated with antibiotics. Many patients have a full recovery following their prescribed dosage of antibiotics. However, other patients experience long-term issues after treatment such as extreme fatigue, noise sensitivity, vertigo and wide-ranging pain. This dichotomy has created the debate over treatment. Conventional medicine prescribes Lyme disease medication based on the presence of the bacteria, Borrelia. When the bacteria isn’t present, doctors are not able to provide treatment options, even if the patient’s symptoms are obviously real.

This created a new market for Lyme disease treatment. There are naturopathic options that are safe to try and can provide relief. But there are also false promises designed to con sick people in to paying top dollar. Conversely, relying solely on antibiotics for post-treatment lyme disease (PTLD) can be dangerous and expensive.

Ozone therapy is one of the options for PTLD that can be performed safely if done by a trained medical professional.

Ozone Therapy & Cancer

Cancer is another contentious medical issue with many patients seeking alternative methods opposed to expensive and debilitating chemotherapy. Shady characters try to take advantage of this which paints all alternative therapies a bad light.

Clinical trials have been inconclusive in determining consistent effects of ozone therapy for cancer treatment – specifically tumor oxygenation. It’s possible that it can be an effective treatment alongside treatments like chemotherapy but more research is required.

Ozone Therapy vs. Blood Doping

Some use ozone therapy simply as a biohacking tool to feel energized and healthy. When done safely, this is a great treatment to try if other practices are not working.

This should not be confused with blood doping. Lance Armstrong made blood doping a familiar phrase after his run of winning 7 Tour De France competitions with the help unethical injections banned by the Word Anti-Doping Agency (ADWA).

Blood doping involves the patient storing a pint of their own blood a month or so before a competition. The body replenishes and then the stored blood is re-inserted into the body. This increases the red blood cell count and delivers more oxygen to the blood. The technique increases an athlete’s stamina and provides a huge competitive advantage. Beyond the cheating aspect, there are severe risks including the potential for serious blood clots, Ozone IV therapy is a complete different procedure with different effects.
